Attempts to increase outdoor legibility of transmissive TFT-LCDs have been made with backlighting lamps or by reducing reflection of the viewing surface with anti-reflection and optical bonding. These techniques have fallen short due to heat generation and power consumption which shortened the display life with backlights and the reduction of viewing capacity in bright outdoor settings.
Introducing the Outlook Series
The Outlook Series uses innovative sunlight legible TFT-LCD technology featuring enhanced transflective treatments. Optical enhancements work in conjunction with the ambient light passing the LCD cells to increase brightness. Brighter the environment, the brighter the display!
The enhanced treatment allows for 2,500 cd/m2 in an outdoor 80K lux sun-lighting setting. In a no ambient light setting, the Outlook Series touts a 1900 cd/m2 of brightness displaying vivid and clear images in indoor and semi-outdoor applications such as a shop window or under a glass-roof.The Outlook Series does not produce excessive heat or consume additional power due its optical modification. Its electrical and mechanical characteristics are identical to its original standard TFT-LCD display.
